Hello listers:
Pulled the driveshaft on the '62 Sprite this weekend and SHO NUF , a
bearing failure (almost half gone) on one of the spiders on the front
U-joint. The back was OK but it's out o'there too. Getting a local
Driveline shop to replace both ends this week for a $15 charge. (I
supply the u-joints) Can't beat that price for a pro to do the job.
Thanks again for the diagnosis help from all who responded on where to
look to find the vibration source.
In the reinstall process of the drive shaft, I believe this list
posted before to wrap the front u-joint in black elect tape to
stabilize the joint for easier insertion / joining of the front spline
up the tunnel. (Just let the tape blow itself off with rotation and
out the tunnel as you drive.)
Is this the current best tip on putting the drive shaft back in?
TIA.
