Just a quickie....
WHen my car is cold, it's sometimes a little difficult to engage 1st. WHen
I do, I can feel the resistance on the engine from the brakes preventing
the wheels from moving. This condition gets worse the hotter the engine
gets and effects all gears until I find myself double clutching at the end
of say, a 150 mile trip just to get the car into first or second. When
hot, this condition is worst when the car is stopped, but 3rd and 4th are
also difficult to get into.
Also, when I let off the gas in 3rd, I can feel the top of the stick move
forward ~ 1 inch and back ~1 inch when I reapply the gas. (I may have the
direction reversed, i.e. back 1 inch when letting off the gas and forward
when I reapply it)
Does this sound like a clutch issue, or a synchro issue, or something else.
I thought the PO installed a clutch just prior to selling the car. At
least, he supplied me with a mechanic's bill which said clutch replacement.
Any thoughts or suggestions? If I have to replace the clutch again, does
the engine have to come out?
Michael (tackling the next issue....)
BTW: Does retarding the timing affect power at top end? I retard my
ignition timing to 10BTDC from approx 15BTDC and could no longer attain 80
to 85mph like when I first took the car on the highway after my coil
replacement. Instead, my maximum speed became 70mph, and I slowed down at
a rate of 5mph every 30 seconds on medium to steep hills in 4th.
