Mike, This may well make the situation worse, and Im not sure how it falls in to your originality ethic, but when I added a Lucas sports coil to my car it seemed to idle much more reliably - that with the electronic ignition makes the car idle very "accuratly" at very low RPM. I can get it to idle at about 400-500rpm very easily and it doesn't sound like its going to die. It pretty much idled quite normally off the scale.
