I just purchased a later model Distributor from a 1500 with the integral
ignition module on the side to use on my 1970 1300 Spitfire. I am wiring
the whole car up myself so that isnt a problem. The problem I do see is
that on the wiring diagrams that I have for the later model Spitfires there
is a ballast wire AND a drive resistor the drive resistor is $40 which
seems a little pricey! Can anybody tell me the resistance of this unit or
if it is the same as the ballast resistor that I will be using instead of
the ballast wire currently used on the production Spitfires. In other
words, can I just use two ballast resistors, one for the coil and one for
the drive? If I know the value I may be able to just buy a 5 watt
wirewound resistor to use for a whole lot less than $40
As a side note, just exactly what is the drive resistor used for in this
application anyway?
