Folks, I'm not arguing that the valve lash given in the various manuals
for Spitfires is for cold.  That wasn't the question.  The question was
"When is it best to set valve clearance, hot or cold?"  The answer to
that question is hot.  

That does not mean I set my Spitfire valves hot; in fact, I set them
cold.  As I said in my initial words, cold is far easier as you don't
burn your fingers, you're far more likely to actually touch things to
ensure lash is truly correct (ever try it with a hot rocker?), and you
don't have to worry about things cooling down and shrinking. 

Don't read into my words what I don't write, please.
