Well....you can do what I did.... and mount them in the
rear panel in front of the gas tank. I made 1" thk spacers
out of composite board, covered them in matching vinyl.
The speakers clear the tank (depth of speaker dictates
spacer thickness)
Second Option - IF and ONLY IF they are very shallow,
you can mount them in the 'carpeted corner' of the
doors, but window clearance it tight and you have to deal
with passing wires through the door hinge area.
The nicest sound I now have in my Spit? Most
definitely the speakers in the headrests of my Miata
Seats! Cranked.... while seated.... someone out side
the car doesn't even hear it 40 feet away.
It's like hanging headphones just behind your head.
I've seen one inventive setup. The gentleman had
made 'saddle bags' that with a bit of Velcro, hung on the
head rests and held small 2" cubed portable CD player
speakers, one on each side of each headrest.
They were easily removed and simply dropped down behind
the seats. You could still crank them up as if they were
simply box speakers sitting back there.
