Greg,

I sympathise! I had a bleed nipple so badly stuck that I ended up snapping
the end off while the thread stayed in the caliper! At least it remained
sealed after the end broke off. I had bled within the previous year, so it
must have been me over-tightening when I last bled, rather than the nipple
rusted in place.

The broken nipple is still there, and that caliper remains unbled. I just
decided to leave it as it was, until/unless it became obvious that the
brakes would not perform unless I bled that caliper - then get a second-hand
replacement.

I would suggest just bleeding the remaining brakes, and seeing how the
brakes perform afterwards. If they are performing well, don't worry too
much. If they are still spongy, investigate further. If a combination of
penetrating fluid and vice grips won't do it, it may be new caliper time. I
would not be in favour of bleeding where the line enters the brake caliper -
my instinct suggests you'll let more air in than you will ever purge.
