I can vouch for this. Many moons ago I lived in Newburgh, NY. I drove
a really nice (loaded) Volvo 240 Diesel. I got hit in the right front
corner, tearing the wheel assembly right off the car. Knowing how Volvos
are built, I wanted the car repaired and returned. The insurance company
refused, totalled it and gave me afraction of it's value (all of the
features that cost extra when you buy the car actually decrease it's
book value, especially the diesel which I loved.) The sad part. They
sold the carcass to the company that had towed it in and he had it fixed
and sold to a new owner in less than two weeks. Insurance companies rank
right up there (or is it down there?) with lawyers and used car salesmen.
