Ronnie, thanks for replying.  First...=20
it's only scanner problems  all other printer function are fine.  This is a=
 Windows 10 desktop.  And I have tried both wi-fi and usb connected with sa=
me (no) results.. I've=20
tried different cables and different usb ports and different IP addresses. =

worked with main frame computers and networks for 25 years (back when they =
were=20
coal fired ) and I know how to eliminate problems one at a time till you fi=
nd a=20
solution but this one has me baffled.  For one thing the scanning software=

doesn't give you any error codes or description of problem, other than the =
cryptic "can not communicate with the scanner" message...  =20

I'm=20
thinking maybe a virus or some malware flipped a switch somewhere inside th=
e=20
command stuff that I'm not smart enough to find... I've looked thru=20
installation logs and event viewer and with my limited knowledge I=20
don't see a problem.. that being said, the problem could be a big barn pain=
ted red and I'm=20
not smart enough to know what to see. =20
Don't have another pc to attach to and even then if it worked there it woul=
dn't=20
show me the problem on my box.   very frustrating

you guys are throwing out all the proper tasks to find this but=20
I've already tried every suggestion before coming here...

does anyone have knowledge of internal command files and stuff that could b=
e reloaded or fixed ??  most system files are hard to play with I know... b=

Asking for clarification - Are you having trouble printing or scanning? I=

thought the problem was scanning. If=20
it's not printing, try connecting the printer directly to the computer. Als=
o PC or Mac? There are different protocols for each platform.

Plus 1 for VueScan. Ed is an incredible guy and the software simply works! =
You can D/L it and see if/how it works. You'll=20
get watermarks until you pay for it but=20
you'll know it works before you do. It was recommended by a friend on the e=
diting list I've=20
been on since the mid=20
'90s. I used it for maybe 15 minutes and bought the lifetime licence. At so=
me point Ed made it cross-platform and my lifetime licence was grandfathere=
d so I can scan using my Brother MFC from any of my Macs or PCs. Inarguably=
 the best $100 I ever spent on software!=20
