The problem with overhead hoists is they go up and down. Engines need
to go forwards and backwards, as well as up and down. Of course, you
can move the car, but they tend to weigh a bit more than their engines
do. A shop crane lets you move it backwards and forwards. If you're
short on space, one that comes apart takes less room when not in use
than a folding one, usually.
