I will second what Derek says. I purchased a Murray 12.5HP (BS I/C engine) Lawn
Tractor in 1994 and have had no problems with it. Have had to replace the
blades a couple of times a fix a flat tire now and then, but otherwise just
start and run it. Eventually the steering linkages will die, but that will be
years from now and I won't have any problem with spending another $800-1000 for
a new Sears or Murray equivalent. One caveat might be that I only cut lawn
with it as I use a JD2040 (40HP) ag tractor for other chores.

Well - I wasn't going to bother replying - but I think we do need to
face reality every so often. New house 5 years ago - never had need for
lawn tractor before so didn't know much about them - bought Sears with
Briggs 15.5hp - worked perfectly ever since - belts stay on - never
failed to start - doesn't leak oil - and the bit that really amazes me -
never needs charging even over winter ( I start it about once a month
for 15 minutes) and still on original battery. Stays in wooden shed all
summer and storage unit all winter (unheated).

So - er - why should I spend twice as much?

Derek
