"Also recall that the bushing is to be soaked in "OIL" before
installing." This can be shortcut so that the bushing is ready to
install in minutes rather than 24 hours. Just set one open end of the
bushing on your thumb, fill the bushing with oil until it is brimming,
place your other thumb on the top of the bushing (it helps to be double
jointed here) and push, while watching the outside of the bushing.
Within seconds you will see oil oozing through the bushing wall. Viola,
the bushing is ready to install. Thank you Blake, for reminding
everybody about oil vs grease in the lubricator. I suspect that in the
40s and 50s, the oil separated out of the grease at a low enough
temperature that using grease worked in the lubricator. Such is no
longer the case with modern greases.
