Paul,

    It was not too many years ago that we used the crank to start our
TD.  There was also a time about twenty years ago that my wife spent a
whole week starting the TD with a crank while I was overhauling the
starter (the TD was her only car for transportation at that time).  The
crank is also very helpful for turning the engine when adjusting valves.
