Bob:

You can advance the timing some before TDC because of the better
quality gasoline we're using. However, if you ever want to hand
crank the engine, make sure that the medical insurance is paid up
as most likely the engine will kick back and try to take your arm
off.

Advancing the timing on higher compression engines helps more
than on those still at stock compression. There is really no
sense in leaving a TD engine with a stock compression ratio
during a rebuild when all of the TFs had the ratio increased to
8.2:1. (or was it 8.6:1?)

BTW: The correct placement of the thumb on the same side as the
fingers when on the crank helps protect the hand and arm from a
kick back. So also does starting on the up pull NEVER pushing
down.
