Insurance of an FIA or FIM speed attempt has to be arranged by the
competitor(s) concerned in organising it.
Team Maximum Impulse paid an insurance fee for third party indemnity of
about $8,000.00 for their 19 days on the salt. Rider also paid for the
officials insurance protection (injury) and for his own life cover in sums
added to this figure. And as visitors from overseas we had freight
insurances to pay as well. The fact that it was a rocket bike made little
difference to premium level - aiming for 400 mph costs a lot.
Not being a Kart driver (or bike rider) I just wonder if there is much less
skin lost at 130 mph than 140+ mph?
