Wyoming Air Guard is deploying a major fire fighting unit today to southern
California to assist the efforts. This is one of only 4 units in the US
equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS), and crews have
received training in MAFFS operation. Two C-130s are equipped with the
self-contained reusable 3,000-gallon dispersal system that can be filled with
water or fire retardant chemicals. The C-130 crew can drop the entire 3,000
gallons in 5 seconds.
