For all:
Wanted to autocross at a new place with Old Dominion
Region SCCA, out in Pungo. Went out to the garage
very early Sunday to prep the car, and on
startup had no electricity to the fuel, oil, or
temp gauges and no turn signals. This problem
has come and gone, gone when Im looking to fix it,
and come when on the road.....so now it had come to
stay. I'm used to no speedo and no tach, they have
been in california, very slowly getting re-built,
but autocrossing with no working Oil pressure or
temp, on a 95 deg Virginia day, is not good.
After wiggleing connectors, and so on for a while,
I just went mental and got out the soldering iron
and soldered every crimp connection on the fuse box,
and wire brushed the fuse terminals, and the fuses.
(yea, I disconnected the battery first)...
Not sure what part of this fixed the problem, but
its fixed! By the time I got to the auto-x they
were getting ready for first car, so oh well.
BUT, there was another roadster there, a very
black 69 2000 with subtle nice fender flares,
no bumpers, and Kumho 225X50s classed in CSP.
The owner, Phil, was cool (yep, another good
guy roadster owner) and I hooked him up with
directions to the list, and told him he should
join. Amazing, he had not heard of it. He
had the solex carbs, and a stock engine and
stock exhaust. I didnt stay to watch him run,
but he will be at the TSCC run 15 sept, where
I normally run. Should be fun.
On the way home I stopped to visit a friend in
the neighborhood who has 2 MGs. He had never
had a ride in the roadster, so I took him
out over my standard fast ride in the country
course, he was very impressed with how amazingly
fast my car was, and how it could actually go
around corners fast....his MGs are a 77 and a
79, the sit high in the air massive bumper kind....
He immediatly wanted me to go for a ride in his
"fast" MG, the one with a header and twin carbs.
It was amazingly, pathetically, slow. Really
nice soft ride though. And, in a crual twist
of fate, all his electrical stuff worked,
unlike my car that morning!
All in all, a great day of roadstering,
both Japanese and British, and glad to
have solved somehow the electrical gremlin.
