I bought a used 510 (a '73 or '74) when I was in college - the lying bi"h who
I bought it
from explained away the elevated reading on the temperature gage by saying,
"My mechanic
checked it out, and he said that the gage is just a little off.". Actually, it
had a bad
waterpump, a leaky head gasket and a severely clogged radiator... oh yeah, and
she forgot
to mention that the trunk lid never had sealed well since the massive rear end
hit that
had been cosmetically repaired, so that after a heavy rain (not uncommon in
Sacramento, CA
in the winter) you had better know where the drain plugs in the trunk were!

That was my first hard lesson in the subject of buying a used car.
