There are throttle bodies available to replace SU's.
They cost $140/each in England. It's also possible to
weld together a new intake manifold and to use a
single throttle body. You can also calculate the correct
mainfold length to get a ram effect. BMW had the largest
throttle bodies with 2-5/8" on some models.

It's also possible to use Bosch EZK116 ignition system.
You need a sensor on the flywheel and a knock sensor
on the engine block. The distributor is only used to send
the current to the coils. Several different ignition boxes
are available with timing curves. Spare parts are cheap.
