I've just started (ha) to suffer the "hot starter syndrome" Myself. got a starter heat sheild from my local speed shop but have yet to install it. Symtoms are the same as Daniel described. Don't have to whack it or whang it, just wait till it cools off a bit. Never had this problem till I installed the headers.
