I've been playing with the Nissan tranny some more, and the results are
mixed. The problem I'm running into now is that I really need to move the
tranny forward an inch, but if I lop it off of the bell housing I may run
into trouble with the input shaft running out of splines. I'm going to take
the tail housing to the band saw and see if i can get some more clearance.
The good news for those of you without Spyder chassis is that it should be a
good fit. The only reason I am having these problems is that the case of the
tranny interferes with the tubes on the spyder. I appears that you could
probably make an adapter plate to go from the nissan bellhousing to the ford
block. Even if that took up too much room, it would only mean you would have
to mill off an inch or so from the bell housing and weld the adapter plate
on. Moving the shifter is the most complex part, nothing a little machine
work and a tig welder can't handle ;).
