There's certainly some truth to this.  The front turn signal, with a
standard
bulb, goes completely out during each flash, while the rears do not. 
Perhaps 
this could be corrected with a differnet flasher unit.  Still, its so
much 
brighter than the standard bulb was, that at least it can be seen in
daylight.  

For the heck of it I popped the trunk lid open to see how bright it
looked 
inside and discovered that another disadvantage of not having enclosed
lights 
is that the bulbs gets really  filthy.  In fact the trunk area itself
gets pretty filthy 
too because it's open to the outside.  Years ago I drilled holes in the
trunk 
bottom to let out the water that tended accumulated there.

On the other hand, if the tail lights are turned on, the trunk interior
is very 
brightly lit!
