Well,

I did some checking around about how big of a compressor you can use
on 110v.

It seems that it takes about 746 watts/HP. So, a 2HP compressor could be
run on 110v if you have a 15 amp breaker on that circuit (746 X 2 = 1492, or
about 15 amps). If you have a 25 amp circuit, you could use a 3HP compressor.

Before buying a compressor, check the breaker/fuse for the lines where
you'll be using the compressor. If you want a 3HP compressor and you
only have a 15 amp line, DON'T JUST INSTALL A LARGER FUSE OR BREAKER!!!
You could easily overload the wires and start an electrical fire :-(.
If you don't know what you're doing (like me :-) then get someone who
does.

The big question is: What size compressor should someone get to not
limit themselves? I would like to get an air compressor sometime, but,
I'd want to be able to do everything from fill my tyres to sand blasting
to painting to running air tools. Is a 2HP enough? What about the
capacity of the tanks? Is the 11 gal tank large enough? Should I get
a 20 gal?

            Just keeping the topic alive...
                    Thanks!
