Right. When the Audi guy (can't remember his name) took over VW and kicked
out all the Porsche designs, he said this place is going water-cooled and I
have some great ideas for sidewinder cars. But to get us going right now,
lets badge-engineer the (north-south engine) Audi Fox and call it the
Passat. We'll name all the cars after winds, get it? When we get them
finished, we will call the sidewinders the Golf and the Scirocco(sp?).
Well, in the USA, they figured we were not hip enough for "Passat", so the
car was called the Dasher here. When the Golf came out, it got called
"Rabbit" on this side of the pond. Eventually, later versions of both cars
got the same names, but the Passat had to go through "Quantum" first.
