At one time I had a MSD (part number 8950) rev switch bring on a buzzer
mounted in my helmet about 800 rpm before the rev limiter came on.  That car
was a 300hp turbocharged 1200lb sucker car.  Man I miss those days.  It
worked great.  I had a standard 1/4" jack wire tied to the padding of the
helmet and a radio shack buzzer that worked from something like 5 to 18
volts.  If you cut the Buzzer, apart you can use rtv to glue it into the ear
area.
