You can I suppose.  After this weekend, however, I would recommend
checking it by actually depressing the throttle pedal all the way down
from the inside of the car, not just yanking on the linkage from under
the hood.  An older Z car went wild on course Saturday after completing
a practice excercise at our yearly spring warm up and novice orientation
event.  It looked to me like some reckless goofing off, and when I got
near the car a white faced novice got out and said the throttle stuck. 
His father co-driver was quick thinking and reached over to turn off the
ignition.  They had taken out the floor mats, had two return springs in
good shape, and linkages looked O.K.   Turns out his carpets were not
fully fastened or glued down, and the pedal was hanging up on it.  Check
those loose carpets techies.
