Yes, real slicks are massively different in terms of construction.
Because they don't have to adhere to DOT regulations, for example, they
are much, much, much lighter -- and the tire is the number one absolute
worst place to have weight on a car.

A bald DOT tire may be slick, but that doesn't make it a slick!  :-)
