   John,

I maybe delusional but I have found that I can reduce the amount of spam I
receive by using Ad-Aware to help eliminate spyware on my computer. It is a
free program for personal use and seems to work well. I run it at least once a
week and if I do a lot of web surfing in one sitting the I will run it after I
get done. It only takes a few minutes for it to check your computer. If you
just google spyware you can spend the next couple weeks learning what is out
there and what works. I chose Ad-Aware because it was free and recomended by
quite a few sources. I do surf the web at times. I do notice an increase in
spam after going through a heavy surfing period and a decrease in spam when my
schedule gets so busy that I only have time to use my computer for checking
email or visiting non-spam generating sites like my own financial institutions.
For give the description but I have read about computer "geeks" who have as
many as four or more different applications they use, one afte!
r the other to eliminate spyware on their computer. I do three other things to
help minimize spam. The first is to use an exclusive email for signing up for
those dumb things in life, for instance if I decide to enter into a "contest"
online, or respond to say Home Depots invitation to complete a satisfaction
survey. The second is that I look for consistent, real company offers that
repeat themselves and figure they are legitimate web sites that will truly take
me off their email lists if I opt out online. And the third is to make sure if
I sign up for any new software, buy any new products that require an email
address, fill out a rebate form online, etc., that I look and check the box to
not have "offers" sent to me. Sometimes I have to return to these sites to
eliminate those "automatic" email sign-ups that some companys have.

The web address is for ad-aware is:

 Hope this helps.
