Hello, I just recently bought a '75 TR6, am very excited after not having
owned one in 20+ yrs. It has a few problems but otherwise a pretty solid
car. One annoyance is with the dashboard gauges. With the brightness turned
all the way up all the gauges are very dim, unreadable at night. Is the
brightness control bad or could it be something else.
Jeff, highly likely the instrument bulbs themselves have blackened and need
replacing. Also, the bulb holder may have blackened too, so some fine
sandpaper on the end of a cotton bud that's gently moved up and down the
holder will remove dirt deposits. While you've got the instruments out,
gently prise the tabs at the back of the instrument bezel ring and twist to
pull away from the instrument itself. Then give the glasses a good clean.
This should fix the problem.
