dashboard gauge brightness

Hello, I just recently bought a '75 TR6, am very excited after not having
owned  one in 20+ yrs. It has a few problems but otherwise a pretty solid
car. One annoyance is with the dashboard gauges. With the brightness turned
all the way up all the gauges are very dim,unreadable at night. Is the
brightness control bad or could it be something else.
