Joe:
I'm rebuilding my front end as well. I've sandblasted all the parts and
painted them to look like new. I purchased new ball joints, tie rod ends,
springs, spring packings, shocks, and all the bushings.
As far as the lower trunion is concerned, mine came apart very easily and
was packed with golden color clean grease. There's a seal on the top that I
plan to replace, but otherwise it looks fine to me. Maybe someone else will
have something to add about that component. If nothing else, I'm sure
someone will mention that it's supposed to be filled with 90 weight oil
rather than grease.
I'm also planning to replace the inner/outer wheel bearings since I'm right
there anyway. You may want to consider that as well. If I were you, I'd
sandblast the control arms and see how they look.
Have fun. I'll see you at the car shows.
