my personal experience with the American V8's I run is that valve seal guides
harden with age and ABUSE casing then to disintegrate or just become
nonfunctional. the signs to look for are blue smoke on cold start and blue
smoke upon pulling away from the stop sign at the bottom of a down hill run.
All my Ford V8's lose this smoke trace after new valve seal installation.
To date i have not had this problem with the TR and am not informed as to the
results of installing valve seals in an Engine not fitted with them in design
such as my 76 TR6.
Been so long since i had mt TR engine apart I cant even remember if it dose
have them.
I know my current Ford dose as i just replaced them and the little blue puffs
are gone.
