Hi Jim:
I also had the same smoke problem with my 1976 TR6. After sitting a
while it would leave cloud of blue smoke on start up. Also it would
smoke a little in between shifts.
I bought a set of valve seals from a gentlemen on the www.vtr.org
site. If I remember correctly his name was John from GA. I believe he is
also on this email list.
I am happy to report.... after the installation of the valve seals
(pretty easy one hour job w/ help from my buddy Steve). The smoke is
almost completely gone. I have driven about 6000 miles since the
install. My oil consumption (other than leaks) has dropped. No pun
intended!
I'm sure the valve seals are not intended for repair on a very worn
engine. (As Bob Lang has pointed out). In my case. My compression (dry &
wet) was still very high. I would suggest trying it, as the cost was
about $12.00
