Using the blue parts book for reference, Plate CL page 161. The two brass
shift forks, #38 &39 must engage in the
groove of the shift synchro hubs. Also part #40 must engage with the pin on
the reverse operating lever. It is on
plate CN page 171 part #54. The gear set in the case should be in
neutral and the shift lever in the top should be in neutral.
  The reverse lever #54 can move independent of the shift lever and miss
the part #40. The part #54 is fastened to the inside
of the case and moves the reverse idler gear #50.
It is simpler then it sounds.
