[TR] Hoses to carbon canister for Triumphs similar to that used on a TR6

Do you have the solenoid valve connected to the bottom port on the canister?  Do the two small hoses connect to that valve?  That is your anti-run-on device that starves the engine for gas when you switch off.  The canister is an integral part of that and will not work without it.  Since your car has aluminium (aluminum) heads you may not have issues with dieseling at shut-off.  The TR6 cast iron heads sure do - especially when you bump up the compression ratio like I did.

Venting the tank through the canister helps preserve the gas quality on a car that gets used on an occasional basis as opposed to venting the tank directly to atmosphere.

Hello Dave,Just for clarification.I have a canister with 3 ports. 1 goes to the tank. ( understood - put an air filter on this line)1 comes from the valve cover breather and from each carb. Block this off at the canister. (Since I'm assuming this introduces some air from the bottom of the canister, do I need to adjust fuel air ratio?1 connects to the carbs (above in photo (42 and 44) . Does this vent to air? What have I gained by removing all this? As I said I have the parts readily available.
For other folks who have replied. I will take this stuff to my local NAPA as I need some vacuum hoses as well.Regards, Sujit

On a TR6 and your diagram – there is a T from the vacuum system.  One end goes to the cannister. Just eliminate it. the line that comes in from the fuel tank is important in that is where air comes from to replace the fuel as it leaves the tank.  I just put a filter on it right there in the engine compartment and let it continue to supply air to the tank. From: Sujit Roy <triumphstag at gmail.com>

Subject: Re: [TR] Hoses to carbon canister for Triumphs similar to that used on a TR6 I am working on Stag No. 2 and need to get it registered in CA. I have all the parts, so I  thought I'd put it on. However, I have Stag no. 1. What improvements can I get by removing the canister and how do I plug the holes correctly? I recall the Stag has a return from this canister back into the fuel tank. If I plug this line wont it cause some sort or vacuum in the tank? Sujit On Wed, Aug 26, 2020 at 9:50 AM dave <dave at ranteer.com> wrote:
Just a thought – why not remove the charcoal cannister and all the hoses?  I did that on my TR6 and its an improvement From: Triumphs <triumphs-bounces at autox.team.net> On Behalf Of Sujit Roy

If you can't find it you can get some barbed right-angle fittings and make the sharp turns using those. Dave   -----Original Message-----

Subject: [TR] Hoses to carbon canister for Triumphs similar to that used on a TR6I need to get some hoses for my Stag. I don't think they are available. This is from a TR6 and the hoses are similar to hoses 27 and 29.The canister in the Stag sits quite high under the hood  and I'd like to get preformed 90 degree angled hoses. Are the hoses for the TR6 performed? If so, then TRF probably has the correct ones. Can someone confirm? Regards, Sujit
