Did you replace the cam and lifters at the time of rebuild or re-use the original ones? How many miles on the rebuild?

A bunch of years ago I restored an LBC for a guy...original owner from the early 70's, wanted to rebuild the car as a retirement gift to himself and his wife...apparent very fond memories.

Long story short.... 110K+ miles on the odo.... when I pulled the oil cap for a first look, the valves, rockers, pedestals, all were different colors...looked nearly new! The engine had never been touched, let alone that the car had sat for the last 15 years outdoors in the weather.? First tests, the engine still had great and even compression.? He'd been running Mobil 1 since the very first oil change in 1971.?? It made a believer out of me. I've been running Mobil 1 20-50 in all my LBC's ever since... perhaps 110K+ miles cumulative now, without single issue.

Plus...you can buy 4 (5?) quart big jugs at Walmart for well under $30

I wouldn't advise using VR-1 Racing oil in our LBC's. While it does have some zinc, it's designed for racing engines that are torn down on a regular basis. My oil of choice is Penn Grade (used to be Brad Penn) 20W50 partially synthetic. You can get it from Amazon or TRF for around $8 per quart. Sure it's more expensive, but still a lot cheaper than a spun bearing or flattened cam!

I?ve been using Valvoline 20w 50 full synthetic for several years now, and it used to be immediately available from Amazon with free shipping.? It has zddp.

  ?

Now its 1 to 2 months.

  ?

  However ? Advanced Auto Parts - https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/valvoline-vr1-racing-20w-50-full-synthetic-motor-oil-1-quart-679082/10069836-P?searchTerm=valvoline+20w-50+full+synthetic

  ?

With free shipping with a minimum order of $25, which is 3 quarts.? You can buy it any number of quarts (from Amazon it?s a 6 pack), and it?s a couple pennies cheaper!!!
