[TR] Tr3, conversion from capillary tube to electrically sensed water temperature gauge

On my gauge the cap tube broke loose from the sensing bulb. The bulb is still tight in the housing but the tube is free to rattle about.

The very early TR4 gauges had domed lenses so if you can find an early TR4 temp gauge it is (mostly) indistinguishable from a TR3 cap tube gauge.

I have never had a capillary tube fail. What happened?

As far as I know the port on the thermostat housing is the same between the
TR3 and the TR4, but are the gauges the same? I though the TR3 gauge was
domed but the TR4 gauge is flat (but I may be mistaken and am glad to be
corrected)

After 2 failures of the capillarity tube water temperature gauge, I am
thinking of converting to an electrical based system like the tr4/6 uses.
Anybody out there done that?
