I had this problem with my TR250, I tried to get the pin out, easy out and drill and punch from the other side, the particulars are fuzzy, but I remember I messed with it for a long time and nothing worked, your mileage may vary.  I ended up using one of those cheap angle grinders from HF and was surprised how quick and easy it was.  Luckily I had donated a spare tranny to guy in the club a short time before that.  He donated a good used cross shaft back.

Was pretty easy to drill an additional 1/4" hole through the shaft and yoke for an insurance bolt.  The shaft is hardened steel, so get a good drill bit.
