50 years ago, or so, I remember my brother setting out, in the wintertime, from the Philadelphia area, headed back up to Massachusetts where he was stationed.  full snow suit, gloves, hat, the works.  he said the car funneled all the outside cold air into the car.  I guess his heater did not work so well!

50 years ago I used to drive a TR-3 all winter in New England without a thought or complaint due to the very effective heater. Top off would be a different story, it never crossed my mind! joe mato

May have had the same problem my Dad's TR3A did : the rubber seals under the
front fenders were rotted out.  So all the air trapped by the front wheel
wells would come rushing out through the gaps under the dash.  It would
actually dump snow in your lap!

I drove my TR3 for two consecutive winters in Ithaca, NY without
issue. But I was just a dumb college kid who didn't know any better.

When I was 16 I had a TR3 as my only car.  Living in Chicago I drove the car year round for many years. It wasn't uncommon to see the car buried in snow similar to the one in the picture. The car wasn't a collector car to me it was my only transportation which is the best way to enjoy a car..

George,

So sad to see that beautiful car buried in snow.  Where did you take the photo?  City and state.

Thanks

Drive a Triumph collect a peanut. 10 Feb drive a Triumph day. The Peanutmobile was at the grocery store when I went over to stock up for the expected weekend storm.

The way I see it, neither of my cars, the 1960 Land Rover nor the TR3
are collector cars. They are transportation that I try to keep in very
good driving condition. Since I have 2, I choose depending upon where
I'm going and the weather. But duty #1 for both is transportation, not
to be perfect displays.

Yes I drove my Tr4A (and Sprites and MGBs) daily in the Midwest through hot summers and cold winters, it was the best way to enjoy a car, and I miss the days when these were just used cars you drove around and had fun in (or maybe I just miss my carefree youth).  I still enjoy seeing and old British car parked on the street (rare sight these days) that is driven, loved and lived with as much or more than I do seeing a pristine car on the show field.

But the sad fact is our cars don't last long as daIly drivers, at least in the rust belt.
The few cars I bought that weren't rusty when I bought them back in the day were oxidizing through the metal after a couple winters, but some of my best old driving memories are tearing around in a cozy little roadster on freshly fallen snow.  They usually got around pretty well, and when they didn't it wasn't hard to push them out.

Yes.  Yes.  My project TR3A didn't have those, and I didn't realize they existed, til I went searching for a solution on the List for all the rain making its way onto my dress pants.

Quite the difference I must say!
