Good point. I would also like to add that you can pick one up cheap in any wrecking yard. They are typically mounted internal to the vehicle and are protected against the weather. I picked one from a Temp(?) that looks like new and works well. They are easy to find, in spite of the fact that they are usually behind a panel, because there are stickers explaining how to find and reset them.
I wish I picked up two when I was out just to have a spare.

I might point out that with an electric fuel pump, the pump will continue if the engine stalls and the power to the pump
is still on. This could happen after a collision (not your fault, of course) and you would be pumping gasoline out the
float chamber(s) vents. I would suggest an acceleration activated switch which would shut off the pump in an abrupt stop
as a safety precaution.
