[TR] What am I missing

I started the dry fit of the alternator in place of the generator on the '3a.  It seems like others it is large and a tight fit but before tackling that I cannot for the life of me figure how the mounting is supposed to go.  If I try to line up the pulley it means I would have to grind off part of the housing ( see photo and marker line ).

What did others have to do that to get the GM alternator to fit?
