If you are using a reputable carrier, he should be able to handle, and explain, it all.  If you are doing it yourself contact US Customs to get the forms, not sure if it is still correct but last time I checked there was a 2.5% tax to bring it in.  Be sure in advance that all his papers match the numbers on the car.

List:  I am thinking about buying a car out of Canada.  What do I or the seller need to do to make sure the route through customs is straightforward?

Andrew Uprichard-----------------------------------------Hi List! The last time I took a TR across the boarder there are a couple of things one should keep in mind:***1- send all COMPLETE papers & paper's work all into customs at least 7 days BEFORE the TR is crossing! {You'll find out when you talk to customs}.  (at least it happened back in '99).2- If the engine or any MAJOR of the car parts (running gear) are NOT INSIDE the car, you can claim that it is NOT a complete car & there for it is now considered to be a 'Parts Car'. (the parts can be in the trailer with car but NOT inside the car, because you can claim that it's NOT the original). Thus not having bigs 'easier' things in dealing with customs.3- Also make sue you have wiped your nose after going through all the crap you had to deal with.-Cosmo Kramer
