[TR] spring compressor

What type of threads are used on this compressor?  If they are Acme threads you cannot use a "Jam Nut" since that thread is designed
to NOT lock up.   
 

Try it sometime.  I think you'll find that they do lock, just not as tightly as vee threads.  With enough torque, they still lock
pretty tight.
 
If you want a permanent joint that won't turn even under extreme torque, drill a hole lengthwise through the threads and drive a
hardened pin into the hole.  I used that on a hub puller I built with 1" ACME rod (using a second nut to lock the first one during
the drilling process), and the nut/rod joint took all the torque I was able to throw at it, even with a 1" drive impact wrench and
standing on the end of a 6' section of pipe.  It literally crushed the rod lengthwise, but the nut never moved on the rod.
