[TR] TR4A - Need to replace the water pump

FWIW, I am still running an "aftermarket" pump that I bought from Moss some
time before 1988. This is the style with the integral pulley (so the bolt
that is normally captured by the pulley has to be replaced with a stud).
I've kind of lost track, but it has to have over 200,000 miles on it (on 3
different engines and 2 different cars) and is still working fine. (Thought
it had a bearing making noise the other day, but it turned out to be the
generator.)

Tried one of the 6-vane pumps when I was having trouble with overheating;
made no difference at all that I could discern. But I suspect it would work
better at high rpm where the stock 4-vane pumps have a tendency to cavitate
and consume more power than necessary.

An original 4-vane made no difference either (turns out the problem was crud
coating the insides of the radiator tubes); until the pulley came off. I
think I like the permanent pulley!

I put a small photo album up at

showing the 3 different pumps.
