FWIW, that's what I did when installing my fan.  It really isn't that hard
(and besides I wanted to change the front seal and check the timing chain
tensioner).

Best I could tell, my fan & hub were fine with no weights at all, which may
explain why there were none there before.  Or it may be that my HF balancing
setup was not sufficiently sensitive.
