Hi Bill; You are right; a crash gearbox is one with no synchromesh, like the one I learned to drive on; 1926 Bentley 3-litre boattail. Other quirks of that car were an outside gearchange, the throttle pedal in the middle, clutch on the left, brake on the right. Driving a conventional car after that was a nightmare... Tim
