Just a WAG, but I'd guess the drawings originally referenced two different
casting numbers, before some smart guy figured out that the same casting can
be used for front LH & rear RH; by only changing where that changeable stud
is drilled.  All of my hinges have had a dimple at the alternate location.

The ones with no numbers probably came from a different foundry/mold.
