Yes, prep.
I think the instructions said no primer, direct to metal.. I think that was the problem.
For a modern hammertone paint, go to ACE Hardware.
See the red 5.0L/5speed car currently on BAT. The hammer looks pretty close to stock.
The builder just remembers he got it at ACE.
