Joel, some additional thoughts.
- Pull the radiator and have it checked for plugged passages.
- You don’t have an expansion tank. Water expands as it gets hot. You will
puke fluid if the system is full and sealed. Period.
- A 50% antifreeze mixture will boil at 255 degrees F. under a 13 psi cap.
If you go to 15 psi that raises it to 265 F., you’re not boiling over by
your measurements. Also note that pure water boils at 257 F. at 15 psi.
- If you do have a hot spot in the block then that will cause a localized
pressure spike and will also cause the afore mentioned puking of fluids.
See expansion tank above.
- The stock water pump is adequate for stock blocks. Once you bore it and
add compression you generate more heat and it transfers faster through the
thinner water jacket. I recommend a high flow waterpump such as a
FlowKooler or the Edelbrock.
- We race with 100% distilled water plus Water Wetter. Cools fantastically.
- Check your oil for any signs of water contamination, a cracked head, bad
gasket or water jacket crack will all cause this problem.
- If all else fails I’ve got a nice little 5-Bolt 331 stroker looking for a
home.
