You should have a neoprene gasket for the sending unit. No need for a gasket sealer. I have never replaced a BE tank but have not seen sealer used on other cars. In any case you will have a vented cap so there not be any pressure build up.

    I am placing a new fuel tank and sending unit in my bugeye.I plan  
to ground the unit from one of the screws that holds it on the tank to  
the nuts on the gas tank,and one wire lead from the sending unit  
itself to the hole on the bottom side of the body where it will  
connect to the wire harness.Does this sound correct? The nut on the  
sender will be facing toward the front of the car.Do I need to place  
gasket sealer on the sending unit? Are there any other wire  
connections needed before I install the gas tank?
